Psychic Surgery

Introduction

Some individuals claim to be able to practise a type of healing called psychic surgery. But what is that? Psychic surgery is a type of healing which involves energy – similar to Reiki – but with the assistance of the healer’s spirit guides – these are referred to as the ‘psychic surgeons’.Although the client may not be able to see or sense them, the person that the psychic surgeons are working with, whose spirit guides they are, may be able to see them, or sense or feel their presence in some way.

The role of the psychic surgeons

Just like mediums benefit from the aid of their spirit guides, people who do psychic surgery also require the assistance of their psychic surgeons. They may be guided by them as to where to give healing and also, they may channel the psychic surgeons - so the practitioner may be working as a psychic surgeon, placing their hands on the client's body like the psychic surgeon would.

Explanations

So what are the explanations?

  • Belief - could the practitioner just be fooling themselves into believing that they are being aided by their spirit guides and that in actual fact, they are not working with spirit guides at all?
  • Classical conditioning - since the 'physical feelings' reported by the clients may have been as a result of something else, other than the psychic surgeon or the person channelling the psychic surgeon
  • Placebo effect - perhaps the psychic surgery/psychic surgeons don't do anything whatsoever to actually help the client's illness, but are perceived to due to the Placebo Effect
  • Psychokinesis - IF the psychic surgery does do anything to help the client's physical illness (and can be shown to under scientific experimentation), the healing may be due to psychokinesis: a) as a result of the practitioner's mind or b) as a result of the psychic surgeons' minds or c) as a result of both or d) channelled from the psychic surgeons' by the practitioner {see: Bio-PK and PK)
  • Cognitive dissonance
  • Energy healing
  • Social conformity - perhaps to please the psychic surgery practitioner - Normative social conformity and informative social conformity
  • Suggestion - perhaps the mere suggestion that the practitioner is working with psychic surgeons may lead the client or practitioner to interpret the psychic surgeon healing differently to if they had been told that the practitioner would be performing some other type of healing on them, such as Reiki
  • Imagination - maybe the client or the practitioner are just imagining particular scenarios as happening during the treatment

Psychic surgery as a healing practice

Even if psychic surgery actually worked, how would it differ from any other spiritual practice, such as Reiki or energy healing? As already mentioned, psychic surgery may involve the practitioner to do physical motions on the client's body; Reiki, meanwhile, merely involves the practitioner's physically touching parts of the client's body lightly, in order to channel the Reiki into that particular area (avoiding physical contact with the private areas). Although psychic surgery may also involve the channelling of energy, like with Reiki, it also depends on the practitioner's channelling their psychic surgeon spirit guides.

Psychic surgeons' suggestions

What might the psychic surgeons, if they existed, suggest that the practitioner do, during their psychic surgery treatment? The psychic surgeons could tell the practitioner to:
  • focus on particular areas of the client's body whilst they themselves focus on other places
  • physically massage an area where the client may have some sort of energy blockage
  • focus on chakras that may be blocked
  • put their hands on fingers on particular parts of the body in order to apply energy to heal them
The psychic surgeons may also advise the practitioner about particular past lives that their client has had which are causing them physical illness in the current lifetime. They may also give the practitioner ideas for what sort of treatments the client should try to help their physical ailments.

Contemplation

So if the psychic surgery practitioner is really working with psychic surgeons, would a separate psychic be able to pick up on their presence during their psychic surgery treatment (in a scientific experiment in which the psychic is not told about the practitioner having psychic surgeons as spirit guides)? Also, psychic surgery explicitly indicates that the people who practise it are mediums, who are channelling their spirit helpers (spirit guides who apparently profess to be 'psychic surgeons) for medical purposes. Since a psychic surgeon healer is merely someone who claims to be one, there are no real qualifications needed for having a profession or business centred around working as one. This means that any person who claims to be a 'psychic surgeon' may not actually be one and may instead be a fraud who is making an enormous income out of falsely claiming to be one. On the other hand, of course, there are psychic surgeon healers who do genuinely believe that they do psychic surgery, working with psychic surgeons.
